최근 정부는 21세기를 헤쳐나갈 미래기술로 나노기술(NT), 정보기술(IT), 바이오기술(BT), 환경기술(ET), 우주항공기술(ST), 문화기술(CT) 등 소위 6T 기술을 육성하고자 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다.
이러한 기술 가운데 나노기술(NT)은 분자 레벨에서 물질을 조작하겠다는, 이제와는 다른 새로운 원리에 입각한 기술로 기존의 기술을 breakthrough해 나가겠다는 강력한 도전의식에 의해서 주도되어 왔다.
