Abstract
Aresultverificationprocedureisrequiredtoguaranteethecorrectnessoftaskresultsexecutedbyanyunspecifiedresourcesindesktopgrids.Voting-basedandtrust-basedschemeshavetypicallybeenusedfordesktopgrids.However,theseschemescanencountertwoproblems:wasteofresources,duetoedundantreplicationsofeachtask,andincreasedturnaroundtime,duetotheinabilitytodealwithadynamicchangeableexecutionenvironment.Toovercometheseproblems,weproposeanadaptiveresultverificationschemebasedonfuzzyinferencethatcandeterminethenumberofreplicationspertaskneededforresultverification.Ourschemeisbasedontheclassificationofresourcesaccordingtothetrustydegreeandtheresultreturnprobability.Usingthesetwoparameters,wedevelopthefuzzyinferencemodelthatallowscorrecttaskresultstobereturnedbyataskdeadlineforcurrentdesktopgridenvironments.Simulationresultsindicatethatourschemeissuperiortoothersintermsofturnaroundtimeofentiretasks,quantityofresourcesconsumed,andnumberofreallocationspertask.
