Asmostsensornodesaredeployedtodetectandtransmitinterestingeventsorphenomenaaroundthem,thereal-timedeliveryofsensedinformationwithinapredetermineddeadlinebecomesoneofthebiggestchallengesinwirelesssensornetworks.Eventhoughsomeoftherecentresearchworkshavebeenpublishedinspecificfield,theyaredesignedtocovergeneralpurposeapplications.Therefore,mostofapplicationscannotbesupportedbyexistingschemesespeciallywhentherequirementisapplication-specificreal-time.Inorder
tosolvethisproblem,wemodelthetargetapplicationasaspecifictraffic,(m,k)-firmstream,
whichisknownashardreal-timerequirement,andthenproposeaschemetoguaranteerealtimedelivery.Todevelopthese,weintroduceacross-layerdesigntobringcollaboration
betweenlayersunderthebasicprinciplethatreal-timedeliverywillhardlyachievebyindependentschemeineachlayer.Thus,therequirementsofapplicationarepassedtolowerlayersandusedtoadjusttransmissionpower,prioritizepackets,andfindtheadequatepathinordertomeet(m,k)-firmconstraintsforanystreamdynamically.Finally,simulationresultsrevealthatlowfailureprobabilityforreal-timerequirementson(m,k)-firmstreamisachievedbytheproposedscheme.
