ThispaperpresentsasearchforstandardmodelHiggsbosonproductioninassociationwithaWboson
usingeventsrecordedbytheCDFexperimentinadatasetcorrespondingtoanintegratedluminosityof
5:6fb1.Thesearchisperformedusingamatrixelementtechniqueinwhichthesignalandbackground
hypothesesareusedtocreateapowerfuldiscriminator.Thediscriminantoutputdistributionsforsignal
andbackgroundarefittotheobservedeventsusingabinnedlikelihoodapproachtosearchfortheHiggs
bosonsignal.WefindnoevidenceforaHiggsboson,and95%confidencelevel(C.L.)upperlimitsareset
onðpp!WHÞBðH!bbÞ.Theobservedlimitsrangefrom3.5to37.6relativetothestandard
modelexpectationforHiggsbosonmassesbetweenmH
¼100GeV=c2andmH
¼150GeV=c2.The
95%C.L.expectedlimitisestimatedfromthemedianofanensembleofsimulatedexperimentsandvaries
between2.9and32.7relativetotheproductionratepredictedbythestandardmodelovertheHiggsboson
massrangestudied.
